Michelle is the youngest daughter of three, born to Carey and Rebecca Porter in 1955. In 1973 she dropped out of college and moved home, hoping to save the life of her boyfriend, Tony Pascal. The ploy failed, and in 1979 she began an affair with a police officer, Donnie Hernandez. She married Donnie in 1980 and moved to Spitshire Grove with him. Her son with Tony, Dylan, remained with his father. Today she operates a bookstore in the town square while raising her daughter, Rose.

Donnie's parents became stuck in Spitshire Grove during a blizzard in 1960. They managed to find shelter at The Rigglesbey Inn. During their stay, Donnie's mother, Sylvia, experienced a nightmare so intense she went into early labor. Fortunately, a midwife was close enough to assist in the delivery and both mother and child survived. The family ended up staying in Spitshire Grove, and Donnie followed his father's footsteps in law enforcement. He began seeing Michelle Porter after a routine traffic stop just outside of town. Donnie aspires to become Chief of Police someday, giving his wife and new daughter, Rose, all the support they could ever need.

Her parents began an affair in 1979, but revealed the relationship to Michelle's boyfriend, Tony, shortly afterwards. Four years later, Rose was born. She spends most of her time waddling around her mom's bookstore, Words, Pictures, and More.
Spitshire Grove lies just a few miles to the southwest of White River City. It began as a spiritual community, headed by cult leader, Josiah Rigglesbey, a WWI veteran.
While fighting in the trenches of France, Josiah had a vision in which Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, and Lucifer appeared to him. They explained that all religions were one, and that the Prophets of history were actually visitors from Venus who appeared on occasion to guide Humanity forward.
During the Great Depression, men, women, and children jumped the rails and flocked to Spitshire Grove, seeking food, shelter, and enlightenment.
Today, occultists, spiritualists, and curious travelers come to Spitshire Grove, hoping to partake in an experience of the unknown.
