Deerwood Hills is the newest subdivision in Santa Mesa. Construction began in 1980, and the adjoining golf course was completed two years later.
The neighborhood is mostly comprised of the county's up and coming families and the smell of new money floats through the air.
Although younger in average age than other Santa Mesa residents, the folks of Deerwood Hills tend to be more conservative in nature.
A newly developed hiking and biking trail connects Deerwood Hills to the Downtown area of Santa Mesa, giving the children living there a safe way to come and go.
